Doctoral Studies Programme
The 2026 call opens on 1st November 2025, closing on the last day of February 2026.
This award provides up to three years funding to talented prospective or mid-study PhD students, offering an opportunity to concentrate on the studentship for the period of the award. The expectation is that candidates will have a Masters degree in a relevant field or an excellent first degree or equivalent.
Candidates will be expected to complete yearly progress reports and to make a copy of their thesis available to RADMA upon its completion. To be eligible for funding candidates must be accepted for PhD study at a UK university. Applications must be supported by the candidate’s PhD supervisor.
Awards will be granted to and administered through the institution, not individual candidates. The award will cover costs related to fees and specified living expenses up to a maximum of £26,534 outside London or £28,534 in London, per academic year (pro-rata for part-time students; partial funding is a possibility) and conditional upon the receipt of acceptable annual progress reports.
RADMA Trusted Research Guidance Note (for Applicants and Host Institutions)
Purpose:
RADMA is committed to supporting excellent academic research in management and innovation. As part of this commitment, we align with the UK government’s Trusted Research principles to ensure research integrity, protect intellectual property, and safeguard against inappropriate influence or misuse.
What is Trusted Research?
Trusted Research is guidance developed by the UK National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) to help the research community:
- Make informed decisions about international collaboration
- Protect research from interference, theft, or misuse
- Comply with export controls and legal obligations
What We Expect from Applicants:
We ask all applicants and host universities to confirm the following:
Research Governance:
The host institution follows UKRI’s Trusted Research guidance or equivalent, and has processes in place to assess and manage research security risks.
International Collaboration:
Any international collaboration, funding, or supervision must be declared in the application. This includes:
o Co-supervisors from overseas institutions
o Funding from foreign governments or companies
o Use of research infrastructure or data hosted abroad
Export Control Compliance:
The research does not fall under UK export control regulations. If it might, appropriate checks and approvals are in place.
Sensitive Topics/Data:
Applicants must disclose if their research involves:
o Dual-use technologies (civil/military)
o National infrastructure or government data
o Topics related to security, defence, AI, energy systems, or advanced manufacturing
RADMA May Decline to Fund Projects Where:
- There is a lack of clarity or transparency around foreign involvement
- The research poses an unmitigated national security or reputational risk
- Host institutions cannot demonstrate appropriate oversight
Declaration (required):
Applicants must include a brief statement confirming:
“This application complies with Trusted Research principles. The host institution has reviewed and approved the proposed research in line with its research security policies. All international collaborations or external funding have been disclosed.”
